A New Wrinkle: a Push for Budget Amendment

Thanks to my friend John F. for showing me this article. I think a budjet amendment to our Constitution may be the only way to reign in Congress's dangerous spending of more money than we make.

"Conservatives argue that a constitutional amendment is the only way to guarantee that future lawmakers will abide by whatever spending constraints are adopted in the current deficit-reduction talks. "Our big worry is if we raised the debt ceiling now, how do you force the other side to reform taxes, cut and cap spending?" said Rep. John Fleming (R., La.).

Democrats dismiss the idea as a political sideshow, noting that a vote for it allows members to take a stand without identifying specific spending cuts or tax increases. President Barack Obama "believes that we do not need to amend the Constitution to cut the deficit," White House press secretary Jay Carney said."
