This is an excellent article by Paula Helton. I think the way out of the reelection habit is term limits for all congressmen. There are plenty of good people who would consider it an honor to be elected. The GOOOH (Get Out Of Our House) effort tried hard but was unsuccessful.

They have no allegiance to the constituents they represent nor the Country. It’s all about power, corruption, ideology and greed, but We the People re-elect them every two years.'
