Folk lore

This is an email from Ed B. Thanks for your post.

Bruce

Sept 17, 1813 “Uncle Sam" was 1st used to refer to US (Troy Post of NY)

Commentary:

There is a lot of folk lore about the term Uncle Sam and when it was first used. Some believe the home of Uncle Sam was Arlington, MA (formerly Menotomy a part of Cambridge at one time). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arlington,_Massachusetts. Sam Wilson, who later became a meat packer in NY, is said to be the first Uncle Sam but who knows for sure and dose sit really matter?

As is referenced above, Uncle Sam was first used to refer to the US in 1813 in the Troy Post of NY. Long before the meat packing story during the Civil War also referenced above in the second link.

“Uncle Sam wants You” posters were a common sight around the “draft” for WWI and WWII. The image used suggests a gray haired, top hat figure as our Uncle. It creates a human form to represent our country. Imagery is a powerful technique to convey a message, a feeling an idea. The United States of America and our red white and blue flag has for the last century also conveyed several things, “power”, “compassion” and “loyalty”. No more, however. It has been replace with the “O” symbol; a first step to “changing America”. Obama is a misguided ideologue and a danger to our personal freedom and this country’s position as a symbol of power and good.

Will Uncle Sam trade his top hat for a “toweled head” as the Terrorists wish to see? The next election is for the heart as well as the soul of America . Will we return to a direction that fosters success, encourages self determination and recognition that with our freedom we also have a responsibility to use our skills in a manner that makes this a better place for future generations? Not through government action but through how we live, how we share, how we work and how we play will things become better and we will leave the world a better place.

If you have not seen 2016 make appoint to do it. It is not really a political statement but more the vetting of Obama that did not take place in 2008. It is no wonder why his view of America is different than mine; he spent most of the fist 15 years of his life outside of it and was taught a different view of what is America and the jaded view that it is nothing more than another “colonial power” in need of being humbled.

November is fast approaching, see the movie that the left doesn’t want you to see, vote your conscience and understand that every vote counts. If you want Big government, [one that will say you can not have a knee replacement if you are taking mood altering drugs (everyone seems to be on prosaic) or if you are obese (everyone seems to be) so no by-pass surgery for you] then vote for “O”; if not vote for Mitt. Some of you may think my statements can not be true but read the “Affordable Health care Act” and you will see I am not making it up.

Great analogies. .

This rather brilliantly cuts thru all the political doublespeak we get. It puts it into a much better perspective.

Lesson # 1:

* U.S.Tax revenue: $2,170,000,000,000
* Fed budget: $3,820,000,000,000
* New debt: $ 1,650,000,000,000
* National debt: $14,271,000,000,000
* Recent budget cuts: $ 38,500,000,000

Let's now remove 8 zeros and pretend it's a household budget:

* Annual family income: $21,700
* Money the family spent: $38,200
* New debt on the credit card: $16,500
* Outstanding balance on the credit card: $142,710
* Total budget cuts so far: $385.00

Got It ?????

OK now Lesson # 2: Here's another way to look at the Debt Ceiling:

Let's say, You come home from work and find there has been a sewer backup in your neighborhood....and your home has sewage all the way up to your ceilings.

What do you think you should do .....Raise the ceilings, or pump out the crap?

Your choice is coming Nov. 2012.
